On May 17th, the Goodmakers Street Team sponsored their annual “Paul Revere Rec Day.” Goodmakers Street Team, which is based out of Los Angeles, California, is an organization comprised of athletes, artists, and musicians that have the main goal of “pairing creative passion with life purpose”. The GM Street team believes in empowering their neighborhood through a variety of initiatives, organizations, and events, which are focused on “self empowerment, community strengthening, and global change.” The Paul Revere Rec Day was held at Paul Revere Middle School in Los Angeles, CA and was a fun filled day with outdoor sports, painting murals, making food. Underneath the chalk and paint, was a deeper meaning. With the lack of financial support, art programs are being cut from most public schools, so this event really showcased the importance and need for creative expression.
SustainU was excited to team up with Goodmakers Street Team and this particular event. Shirts were provided to the staff of the event, which was extremely enthused to have 100% recycled, 100% American-made apparel for the event. According to Rachel Ackmerman, one of the coordinators of the event, “We absolutely LOVE them and people were so amazed and intrigued by the fact that they are partially made out of recycled bottles!”
